Kigali Public Library is an open and public platform that inspires communities to read, discover and learn. We provide access to educational, cultural, and inspirational materials in digital and physical formats. We host and create programs, workshops, and events that foster literacy, creativity, and innovation. The library project was initiated by the Rotary Club of Kigali-Virunga and the project was later developed and funded by the Government of Rwanda.
Kigali Public Library is committed to reaching out to serve our diverse community and works with anyone who fosters the most vulnerable people to help and empower them through literacy and education.
We host a range of book clubs and reading programs that cater to all our members. We also encourage members to create their clubs, fuel their interests and explore our existing collection.
We collaborate with existing partners and initiatives to provide fun, interactive and educational workshops for our Kigali public library members.
A child's growth doesn’t depend on books and school alone; playtime and educational movies render important life lessons that cannot be taught through books and help in the child's overall development.
Any Rwandan citizen or resident in Rwanda is entitled to obtain a membership card in the library. You will need to attach a copy of the Rwanda ID/residence permit during the registration process. Your membership to the library is subject to the terms and conditions available for viewing here.
You can pick up to 5 books at once for three weeks. You will also need to provide your library membership number for checkout of these books.
The loan period may be renewed for another 1 week if the materials have not been requested by anyone else.
The due date is provided while borrowing.
Throughout the Library, you will find public computers, printers, and scanners.

The reservation is placed on all copies of the item, which means that as soon as the first copy is returned it will be assigned to the first person in the queue; when the second copy is returned it will be assigned to the second person in the queue, and so on.
A conference room reservation system eliminates the need for manual intervention, and lets technology take over. Meeting coordinators can find a suitable room with all facilities (projectors) and book it. The system holds it for them. The meeting coordinator can enter the details of guests and requirements for the system to allot a room. If the check-in doesn’t happen in time, the users get a reminder, or the booking gets auto-canceled. It releases the room for other users. Similarly, it can alert front desk staff on checkouts before releasing the room back into pools of available conference rooms.
We have rooms that are ideal for small business meetings and brainstorming sessions, and we host events that promote literacy, creativity, education, and cultural values. To book, make an online reservation or contact Kigali Public Library at info@kplonline.org or call at +250 788 500 777.
